Congratulations to Watersports Team Rider Marcus Hansen for finishing 6th in the 49er World Champs adding to his SUP honors this year NZ National Title 1st place and overall champion of the State sponsored summer series
Here is a few words from Marcus
Last week Josh Porebski and I competed at the 2012 49er world
Championships in Croatia. On the last day of the championships there was a final race with only the top 10 competitors of the event competing. We just managed to qualify for this final race after being in 10th place despite having the same number of points as 11th place but beating them on countback. Before the start of the final race with the top 10 we were busy trying to decide which side of the course was favoured as the race course was in much closer to the shore than our other races. We had a good start to the race and after the first lap we found ourselves in the lead. This is when we realised we had been so busy trying to decide our strategy we forgot to check the number of laps for the race. We made an educated guess that we were probably doing three laps. When we crossed the finish line after the third lap in first place we were relieved to get the finishing horn. This boosted our overall place from 10th to 6th overall. It was definitly one of the most stressful races of my life!!
